Before I started blogging, I had no clue what a bookstagram or a bookstagrammer was! I just happened to stumble across the hashtag when I was searching for book reviews on Instagram. As I looked into it, I discovered a whole community of book bloggers, reviewers, and other book lovers. In this post, I will explain to you what a bookstagram is and why it’s essential for book bloggers.

A bookstagram is simply an account or post created on Instagram related to books. The info is typically book reviews, what you are currently reading, book promotions, book photography, book quotes and really anything else that is book related.  A bookstagrammer is the creator of the bookstagram account or post. Pretty simple, huh?

When I am chatting with others that are looking into becoming a book blogger, I am surprised by how many don’t know that this even exists on Instagram.

Here is an example of my bookstagram…

My numbers aren’t as high as I would like them to be, but I’ve only been blogging for a few months, so I still have a ways to go. Don’t get too focused on numbers right away! Focus on building quality followers.

As you can see, my posts are 90% book related. I did throw in a video of my sweet boy Jude, who I adopted a couple months ago!  In my opinion, occasional personal posts are ok, BUT when I am looking through other bookstagrammer accounts, I like to see info about books. That’s just my view on posting. Other people will have different opinions on the subject and that’s ok too!

Why Are Bookstagrams Essential for Book Bloggers?

Connections, Connections, Connections!

I have made so many friends with other bookstagrammers and authors that I have met through Instagram! Getting your blog name out there is important and this is a perfect way to do that. I have more traffic from posing my reviews and suggestions on Instagram than I have with other social media at this time. This is going to be different for everyone though. Pinterest is also another great social media tool!

  1. I never heard of this, but I love the idea! I’m definitely going to set one up because I am a book lover for sure and with homeschooling I’m always looking for great reads too! Thanks so much for sharing this!

    1. You’re very welcome! One great perk to having a separate insta for books is that you don’t annoy your family and friends that aren’t book lovers lol! At least with a bookstagram, everyone appreciates book posts!
