My Rating: 4 stars

Genre: psychological suspense

Release Date: 7/17/18

I received a paperback arc from St. Martin’s Press in exchange for a honest review.

Synopsis:

Suzette is unable to form a bond with her seven-year-old daughter, who cannot—or will not—speak. Ever since Hanna was a baby, she felt rejected by her. It’s as if the child hates her, leaving Suzette very frightened.

Alex wants to believe his wife’s accounts of their daughter’s cruel and unusual behavior, but he’s never seen anything but her love. Is Hanna just a naughty girl whose antics reveal intelligence, creativity, maybe even charm? Or is she actually trying to kill her mother?

A powerhouse, razor-sharp novel of psychological suspense from blazing new talent Zoje Stage, Baby Teeth raises more questions than it answers—and will leave you guessing until its shocking conclusion.

My Review:

When I opened the package I received in the mail, I squealed like a little school girl! I was hoping to get the arc of Baby Teeth & I was so excited! I had seen the marketing from St. Martin’s Press online and I knew this book would be something I had to get my hands on!

In the flyer I got with the book, it asked if you were #TeamHanna or #TeamSuzette and my first reaction was, why would I ever be #TeamHanna??? I read the synopsis and in the marketing online, the kid just sounds pure evil…which she kinda is…but I didn’t think I’d ever have enough empathy for her to be #TeamHanna.

To my surprise, I struggled with this! One minute I was #TeamSuzette and the next I would be #TeamHanna! I felt so many mixed emotions reading this book, but ultimately I chose to be #TeamSuzette by the end of the book. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll leave it at that! If you read Baby Teeth, I would love to see in the comments who’s team you picked!

RELATED  Review: Pretty Little Things, a riveting serial killer thriller, by T.M.E. Walsh.

I’ve never read a book about a child this disturbed before. Like it seriously made me a little scared to possibly have kids in the future! What if my kid ends up like Hannah! That shits scary!

“She wanted to run full speed into their glass wall and didn’t care, if like a bird, she broke her own neck. She’d run at it again and again until it was smeared with her blood.”

“Daddy wasn’t looking, so she stuck her tongue out. Mommy scratched the tip of her nose with her middle finger-the bad finger that meant a bad word.”

“I’m sorry I was so bad.”

  1. So, I saw this one recently and was interested just because of the name and the cover. Reading your review, I’m kind of intrigued to maybe give it a shot, even though it’s not my normal type of read. It definitely sounds like something my mom would like, so I might buy her a copy, and then borrow it when she’s done. Great review!
